THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF IT

Alderman Fenwick’s House will continue to thrive with creative adaptations planned for The Tunnels and Rooftop Terrace.

The Tunnels

During Alderman Fenwick’s early life as a Merchant House, the North & South Tunnel served as a conduit for horse drawn carriages to transport goods from the dock of the Tyne to the store.

Unused for many years, the South Tunnel has been brought back to life as recreational space, delivering delicious coffee via a street front kiosk & café, serving onto Pilgrim Street.

This partnership with the local coffee specialist, Caffe Ginevra, means that passers-by can now indulge in its trademark Sicilian-style coffee, home-made gelato and freshly-made cannoli from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 3pm on Saturdays.

Below is a visual insight into our plans to utilise the space in our Tunnels situated either side of the building…

We are searching for a strategic partner to operate our coffee kiosk/café, with experience in refreshment operations and customer service.

Rooftop Terrace

Our Rooftop, with distinctive parapets to the front, would historically have allowed the Merchant of the house to view his cargo arriving at the docks of the Tyne.

The roof boasts extraordinary views of Newcastle City Centre and features a Rooftop Cupola – a notable feature of the building.

We have scheduled the creation of a viewing platform to allow our guests to safely access our Rooftop and experience the fantastic views spanning Newcastle.

We can’t wait to welcome you in the near future and provide you with a truly memorable and unique experience from the top of this historic venue.
