Dickens by Candlelight
About this event
Dickens by candlelight: ‘A Christmas Carol’ is a magical retelling of Dickens’ classic tale, set in the former Queen’s Head Hotel, now Alderman Fenwick House, Pilgrim Street in central Newcastle upon Tyne. This new adaptation written by Stewart Howson, and performed by Actor Director Louis Roberts (Northumberland Theatre Company, Vera) , in the title role of Charles Dickens, alongside North East actress Melanie Dagg with supporting cast. Told by ‘candlelight’ in the stunning Georgian setting of the Great Room, the former restaurant and salon of the then Queen’s Head Hotel where Dickens himself did stay and regale his stories before a captivated ensemble of fellow hotel guests.
Charles Dickens has a long history with Newcastle upon Tyne and the North East, he married the daughter of the then editor of the Evening Chronicle and frequented the city often with his theatrical tours.
This unique setting offers a Christmas Theatre experience unlike any other, a magical moment in time in a stunning period setting.
